In search engine optimization, there’s been a long debate over the “read more” button and putting content underneath it. In this video Ignite Visibility SEO expert John Lincoln will answer the question, Should you be using the ‘Read More’ button for SEO?”
The “Read More” button is a piece of JavaScript. People like to put a block of text underneath it that describes the website or webpage for ranking on Google.
Should you be doing this for SEO? Let’s find out.
First, take the text that is hidden below your JavaScript and put it into Google search. By searching for that text, you’ll be able to see if your webpage comes up.
If your webpage comes up, Google is finding the text. If it doesn’t come up, that’s an SEO problem. It means from an SEO point of view; it has no value.
Next, install the Chrome DevTools toolbar. Use this tool to check and see if your text appears. If not, you know Google may have a hard time indexing your text.
If you want your website’s content to be indexed by Google, putting it under JavaScript will not help. Instead, structure your webpage in a user-friendly way.
Final Opinion: the “Read More” button for SEO purposes is out.

The "Read More" button was an easy way to encourage users to click on the link and read more content. But now it is no longer effective because people don't like reading a lot of text at once so they will just scroll down and find what they need.
That's great SEO advice! Definitely will try that out, thanks for the tips!
