AI will fundamentally change SEO or Search Engine Optimization.
Google is integrating generative AI into Search. They just demoed what the experience would be in their I/O keynote. Microsoft has also incorporated OpenAI’s tech into their Bing Search.
So, what does this mean?
It means that you won’t need to go to specific websites to get information. You’ll just be focusing most of your attention on the top of the page. Many businesses won’t get traffic to their websites. You can sort of think of the AI section of the page as the new “first page” of search results and the links below as the 2nd page. Data from 2022 indicates that **only 0.63%** of people click on 2nd-page results. There will still be products and links in the top section, for example, if you’re looking for spots to visit so there are still optimization opportunities. But, businesses will now have to rethink their strategies to react favorably to the way AI models serve up content.
