The summer is the best time of year to take a little break, take a step back, and recharge for the final few months of the year. Balance between work and play is serious and the summer is a great time to carve out some time for yourself to reflect on the first half of the year, and prepare for the second half.
If you can split the business year into a few parts, you’ll be able to measure your progress, refresh your mind, and get a fresh perspective on what you need to do for the rest of the year.
In general, taking care of yourself will always help you be at your best. But that’s not as easy to do as many people think and it takes a lot of practice. You need to try different things, check in with yourself on a regular basis, and use the summer as a time to regroup.
Here’s some advice from experts on how you can use the summer as a way to prepare for a successful end of year. If you can follow these tips, you should be able to have a great summer and feel better when you get back to it:
(1) Get Away From Technology.
Technology is amazing. For many of us, it is the reason why our company is successful and it fuels the work we do all year long. Technology is the fuel to the business world and it continues to help us find new ideas and opportunities.
But technology can also be exhausting, says Damien Trevatt, the Owner of Black Hat World. It is tough to get away from, can drain you mentally, and cloud your mind.
“This summer, get away from technology, leave it behind for a week or more, and allow your mind to recharge from the constant pings and alerts. After a week or more away from your tech, you’ll be more ready than ever to get back to it so you can get back to making some progress,” said Trevatt.
(2) Get Away From Home.
In today’s world where many of us work from home, it can be a nice reset to get away, says Verl Allen, CEO of Claravine.
“I usually schedule a few weeks away from home base in order to recharge my batteries. It doesn’t have to be much, but a few days in a strange place can spawn new ideas and can even provide perspective.”
(3) Hold a “State Of the Union” Meeting.
The summer months are a good time to take a look at your progress and see where you stand on your yearly goals, says Yeelen Knegtering, CEO and Co-Founder of Klippa.
“Right before you take a few weeks off during the summer, it’s smart to gather as a company and take a good look at your progress so far this year. A long, in-depth meeting can help you recap the year so far and prepare for the second half of the year.”
Hold a long meeting before summer vacation to get a good look at where you’re at and come back to things with a fresh perspective on what needs to be done.
(4) Perform Some Activities to Increase Mindfulness.
My final piece of advice for the summer months is to perform some activities that can help you live a more peaceful, mindful life. Find time to go for walks, meditate outdoors, and just get away from it all.
This will allow you to figure out what’s really important and make the best decisions for you, your company, and the people around you. Finding time to be mindful can be exactly what you need for a successful end of the year!
